I may be in the minority, but I really enjoy spring cleaning. There’s just something satisfying about cleaning and decluttering my physical surroundings. Unfortunately, one aspect of spring cleaning I don’t think about often enough is my digital space.
Lisa Plaggemier, the executive director at the National Cybersecurity Alliance, offers the following tips to ensure our digital footprint and devices are as clean and secure as our freshly organized home. Here’s to a clutter-free and secure spring season!
- Delete old files and unnecessary documents from your smartphone, tablet, and computer. In addition to creating more storage space, it boosts the performance of your device.
- Delete any unused apps, but BEFORE you delete them, be sure to close the account and have all personal data erased.
- Safeguard your personal data by backing up your most important files using a cloud-based storage provider.
- Ensure all devices are secure and the software is up to date. Updates often include security fixes that help protect against malware and other threats.
- Don’t forget your social media accounts! Review your friends and followers, and reassess your privacy settings to manage who can view your posts and information.
