Our teenagers don’t know that a world without Tik Tok “Likes” , Snapchat “Streaks” and Instagram “Followers” exists. As parents, you need to be aware of how your children are driven or impacted by the numbers. Kids are constantly tracking these numbers which can have a negative affect on your child’s mental health. Even so, they are getting much of their self-worth from those numbers. So what can you do to help? Consider doing a social media “audit” with your child by visiting the various platforms your child uses and see who they are following and who is following them. Remove people who routinely post negative information, and people your child has never met face to face. It’s important to remind your child that their value doesn’t come from social media numbers.
